Look Who’s Here Now!

Puma attended K9 Solutions basic manners class today where she shared the room with several dogs including these two guys. They are higher energy dogs that seemed to upset Puma so I made sure that she knew I would take care of it by always being out in front of her and/or having my body between her and the other dog. She just didn’t want them in her space and as long as they respected that, she was fine and obeyed all her commands!

Puma and I are off to visit our friends at Animall and then she’s going to hang out at the office while I do some computer work. Good chance for her to work on her settling.

Ginny arrived last night and settled right back into the pack. She’s enjoying her time out in the yard with Lexus.

Puma met Moby today and they have been hanging out. Moby does not want to play with other dogs but is fine to hang out with them. Puma is learning that not all dogs are her play toys and she needs to give space to those that don’t want to play with her. Moby is quite a calming presence and is teaching Puma that it’s good to just chill out. We also practiced her obedience commands with Moby as a distraction. She did great and almost forgot he was there!

We took Puma and Lexus on a walk together today to introduce them and they did well. So we headed back home for some play time in the yard. They did pretty good but both of them are shepherds and can use their mouth a bit too much so supervision is needed until they settle in to a good play routine.

Puma is learning that there are boundaries. She is not allowed in the kitchen (tile) while we are eating dinner. Every dog needs rules and boundaries so that they know what is expected of them….just like kids!

We took our show on the road and headed out to Phydeaux this morning. Its important to practice obedience lots of places so your dog knows that commands apply everywhere, not just at home! We also met up with Harley the Yorkie to work on doggy interactions. They weren’t best buds but they were perfectly fine to hang out together in the store.

Puma has sit and down mastered so now we are working on long distance commands with distractions. If you look real hard you will see Cleo the cat in the background of both of these pictures. She likes the job of “tease” and loves strutting along while we work with the dogs. I swear she sticks her tongue out sometimes!

After proper introductions, Kasey and Puma are playing together nicely.

Kasey is showing Puma how it’s done… You must sit and wait to be invited inside Mom’s house. It’s what all good doggies should do!
